Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1. Some of the main points touched in the article relate to making the photo appear as real and honest as possible. Other people photoshop to make it seem like an event took place when it did not. The main point I believe is that photoshop should be used to improve the quality of pictures, not to interpret people in a way that is not reasonable or real.

2. Newspapers such as The Washington Post feel that photoshop should have certain guidelines for photoshop, regarding to not change color and the look of the subjects. Also, the photographers must show an original photo and original picture. Other companies are not as strict, and do not have the guidelines that newspapers of a higher reputation have.

3. I think that adjusting lighting and some of the setting to blend better with the subject, and at times changing the look of makeup or lighting on someone is okay. Cropping a photo to take out unneeded mergers is a professional thing to do. I don't think that photoshopping someone's body shape or how they look on the outside is okay at all.

4. Most unethical photo:
oprah121
I think that this photo is completely unethical. Using the body of one women and putting the face of another to create a better looking person is terrible, especially without the consent of either of the women. This also sends many messages to younger girls, to where they feel like they need to look or feel a certain way to be happy. It also puts Oprah in a weird position, especially since it is not her body and that is what she is being portrayed as. No one should be altered from their original self to look "better".

5. Most ethical photo:
vanityfair

I believe that this is the most ethical photo of the ones in the article, mainly because no one in the photo is being altered to look a certain way. In the article it states that both people were part of the show, but the photo was only of the person on the right. Yes, someone probably shouldn't have been added to the picture, but there was no harm in adding another main person to a significant.
